CAREER CHANGE: POSSIBILITY GENERATING QUESTIONS
Copy these questions onto a word document to
type or write your responses. Answer them as if
brainstorming ideas for yourself. So anything
that comes up is a possibility. Don't begin to
assess the information until you have finished.
Then you can discuss with me in a sample career
coaching session.
1. In your latest assignment, activity or work,
which parts of it did you enjoy most and do best?
Give three or more.
2. What activities give you the most pleasure
when you are not at work? Give three or more.
3. After leaving high school, which two or three
subjects did you study and enjoy the most?
4. What is the earliest achievement you can recall?
This should be something you did before age 10,
perhaps before age 5. Whatever it is, give your
age at the time.
5. Describe two more early-life achievements
(and your age at the time). Again, what you did
then might seem unimportant to an adult mind.
6. As a child, what did you enjoy playing? What
were your fantasies about "when I grow up?"
7. Describe your family of origin's lifestyle,
work experiences, and attitudes towards work.
8. VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES: List all you have taken
part in.
9. Describe your present lifestyle, values about
life priorities, and attitudes toward work.
10. What do you dream of doing if you had total
freedom?
11. List five activities, factors, or responsibilities
you feel should be key parts of your ideal job.
This will not be a complete job description.
12. If you could own and operate your own business,
what would you choose it to be? Describe in detail.
Completing these questions will give you ideas
of things previously not considered and may show
you a pattern of interest in a certain area. If
